Parkview Blends has grouped its roasted coffees into four categories to make it easier for you to find your favourite ones.

Generally speaking, a coffee will develop its taste profile from the green beans that are roasted, and then by the roasting techniques applied to the beans. Lighter roasts will retain more of the green bean taste profile while darker roasts change the natural taste profiles and give way to a more uniformed “smooth” taste.

Light Roasts

Toasty taste and aroma are present as well as brown sugar notes and a distinct lemon or citrus note. Beans have retained much of their natural flavours.

City Roasts

Original bean flavours and some citrus tones are present; not much Maillard reaction or caramelization has occurred yet. Chocolate tones have not developed, and acidity is still fairly high.

Full City (Medium) Roasts

The beans are smoothing out on the exterior, colour is deepening, and some caramelization has taken place, bringing out some of the butter, caramel, and chocolate tones. Fruitier, sweeter, citrusy and floral notes start to diminish.

Dark Roasts

The beans begin losing their origin taste profile and start to take on a roast profile. Bean scorching creates similar tastes in all beans, so the individual profile gives way to a more common one.
